1. Context

Présentation of IMT Atlantique :

IMT Atlantique, internationally recognized for the quality of its research, is a leading general engineering school under the authority of the Ministry of Industry and Digital Technologies, ranked in the 3 main international rankings (THE, SHANGAI, QS). With three campuses in Brest, Nantes and Rennes, IMT Atlantique aims to combine digital technology and energy to transform society and industry through training, research and innovation.

Job environment :

The Department of Energy Systems and Environment (DSEE) of IMT Atlantique is based on the Nantes campus. It has about 70 staff members including 20 permanent professors (10 HDR), 6 engineers and technicians as well as 3 administrative staff, PhD students, research engineers and post-doctoral students. The department is part of the UMR CNRS 6144 GEPEA developing research in process engineering applied to bio-resources and eco-technologies through 3 research teams: Treatment Water Air Metrology (TEAM), Valorisation Energy / Material of Residues and Treatment of Emissions (VERTE), Optimisation - System - Energy (OSE).

In this context, the DSEE is hiring a research engineer to join the TEAM group in the framework of the collaborative research project SAFIRS (Smart Air Filtration and Remote Sensing) financed by the ANR and led by IMT Atlantique, in partnership with two engineering schools: ENSAIT and Mines Saint Etienne, and with two companies: Titanair and ETT. The SAFIRS project aims at developing sensors for real time measurement of filters pressure drop as well as VOC detection. Both sensors will use the same fabric structure, the same interconnections, electronics and communication system. The functionalized fabric structure will be integrated to filters and implemented in HVAC (Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning) systems by integrating communication systems for monitoring and control.

2. Objective

The recruited candidate will be in charge of:

  • The definition and implementation of the workplan to evaluate the pressure drop sensor response under controlled operating conditions
  • The development of a protocol to generate and measure chloramines in a lab-scale air handling unit
  • The acquisition of data and treatment and the analysis of results
  • The participation in reports drafting required by the ANR
  • The valorization of results through scientific articles and conference communications

Job requirements

3. Training and skills


  • The candidate should have a PhD in the field of Process engineering or Fluid mechanics.

Knowledge & Skills

  • He/she should have skills/experience in experimentation, and good reporting abilities. In addition, skills/experience in analytical
  • chemistry would be appreciated for the generation and measurement of VOC.
