Post-doctoral fellow in photonics - CDD 12 months

Job description

Who we are ?

Télécom Paris, part of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom) and a founding member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, is one of France's top 5 general engineering schools.

The mainspring of Télécom Paris is to train, imagine and undertake to design digital models, technologies and solutions for a society and economy that respect people and their environment.

As a post-doc in photonics, you will be working on exciting research projects in the field of optical communication.

You will study the intensity and frequency noise properties of mid-infrared sources, and take part in experiments to investigate the modulation capabilities of the devices developed with different modulation formats (OOK, PAM4, PAM8) on a single 31-meter transmission line. To improve modulation performance, the candidate will shape the signals to be transmitted before injecting them into the laser to optimize the achievable data rate, and use linear and non-linear equalization algorithms to further improve performance.

Télécom Paris is also collaborating with the French Aerospace Laboratory (ONERA) to develop innovative approaches to optical communication in turbid environments, and to estimate the gain made by adaptive correction (wavefront shaping) in terms of distance, signal-to-noise ratio and bandwidth. This cooperation is beneficial because it is based on theoretical modeling and experiments carried out with a laboratory fog greenhouse. You will take part in ongoing collaboration meetings, notably with the University of Montpellier and ONERA (ANR OPTOPIRAT project).

You will join the COMELEC department situates its action within the framework of the knowledge triangle which links education, innovation and research. As such, he works in the field of engineering training, continuing education and doctoral training; it also conducts academic research in the field of information technology; finally, it places its application studies and innovative developments in a cooperative approach with industry and emerging companies.

Job requirements

To succeed in this role, you must have solid experience in photonics, particularly in the design and characterization of optical devices. You should also have a thorough knowledge of modeling and simulation techniques.

You'll be expected to write scientific papers, so a good command of English is essential.

If you enjoy experimenting and are interested in the field of photonics, come and join us!

Why join us?
You'll be working in a fast-growing, pleasant, green and accessible environment (especially for people with disabilities) just 20 km from Paris (RER B and C suburban train lines, close to major roads, shared shuttle departing from Porte d'Orléans). You will benefit from :

  • 49 days annual leave (CA + RTT)
  • flexible working hours (depending on department activity)
  • telecommuting 1 to 3 days/week possible
  • 75% public transport pass reimbursement
  • Proximity to numerous sports facilities, concierge service, underground parking, in-house catering, etc.
