Télécom Paris is positioned as an open-air laboratory for all the major technological and societal challenges: artificial intelligence, quantum computing, IOT, cybersecurity, large-scale digital equipment (Cloud), 5G/6G, Green IT.


The LabSoc research team of Telecom Paris located in Sophia-Antipolis has joined forces with CLEARSY, Aix-en-Provence. Indeed, CLEARSY designs equipment for railway systems whose primary objective is the respect of constraints in operating safety which are expressed in standards (EN5012, IEC 61508). The respect of these constraints aims at taking into account software errors, hardware failures, etc.

Some of the safety mechanisms currently used to satisfy these constraints (such as integrity checking) may already be adapted to counter certain attacks. However, an approach that explicitly includes cyber security threats is needed to accurately assess the risk that these threats pose to the safety of these systems. The objective is then to define the additional mechanisms that should be implemented as soon as possible.

1.Conducting research in the field of embedded systems

- Understanding the cybersecurity threats that could affect railway systems in the coming years

- Bibliography on methodologies that combine safety and security for critical systems. Techniques applied to the automotive and aviation sectors will be considered in particular.

- Proposal of a development methodology, which will integrate (i) the definition of risks, (ii) the safe and secure development of systems while maintaining compliance with the standards of the field, (iii) the monitoring of cybersecurity risks once the systems are deployed

- The definition of mechanisms to support the consideration of threats. These mechanisms must be compatible with the safety mechanisms, i.e. the introduction of these mechanisms in a system must not jeopardize its operational safety.

- The definition of a test environment.

Contract type : CDD Post doctoral
