ASSIGNMENT INSTITUTION: École Nationale Supérieure Mines-Télécom Lille Douai, commonly known as IMT Nord Europe.
Department / Service: Teaching, Research, and Innovation Center for Digital Systems (CERI SN)
Hierarchical Supervisor: Director of CERI Digital Systems
Category: Category A Civil Servant
Work Location: Villeneuve d’Ascq Campus. Travel to the school's other sites is to be expected, both for research and teaching purposes.
AFFILIATION :
IMT Nord Europe, a school under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, and a member of the Institut Mines-Télécom, has three main missions: training responsible engineers capable of addressing the major challenges of the 21st century; conducting research leading to high-value innovations; and supporting regional development, notably by facilitating innovation and business creation. Its goal is to train the engineers of tomorrow, mastering both digital technologies and industrial expertise.
Ideally located at the heart of Europe—1 hour from Paris, 30 minutes from Brussels, and 1.5 hours from London—IMT Nord Europe aims to become a key player in the major industrial, digital, and environmental transformations of the 21st century. It achieves this by integrating engineering sciences and digital technologies into both its teaching and research.
The school operates from two main teaching and research campuses in Lille and Douai and benefits from over 20,000 m² of laboratory space to provide high-level education and excellence in research. Its expertise is organized into three centers:
Digital Systems
Energy and Environment
Materials and Processes
The school also has branches in Dunkirk, Valenciennes, and Alençon.
For more details, visit the school’s website: http://www.imt-nord-europe.fr and the dedicated research website: https://recherche.imt-nord-europe.fr.
As part of this framework, IMT Nord Europe is recruiting an Assistant Professor whose missions are described below.
BRIEF:
Under the guidance of the Head of Digital Systems Center, the successful candidate will actively contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the Centre.
Teaching Missions and responsibilities:
Digital Systems Center is involved in all of the teaching programs of the school. In particular, the CERI is in charge of two teaching areas (Industry and Services, and Digital Sciences and Technologies) in the general engineering training program and a continuous training program in Telecommunications and Computer Science. Digital Systems Center also offers a Master's degree in Cyber Security. Finally, the CERI also has teaching activities in professional training, particularly in AI, through the program dedicated to AI Project Manager.
Teaching Mission:
• Contribute to educational supervision activities (training, projects, internships, tutoring, competitions) across the school's various campuses, depending on one's areas of expertise and educational needs. Some courses may be taught in English.
• More specifically, participate in:
o Core curriculum courses of the engineering program as well as in the integrated preparatory cycle courses (fundamentals of computer science, algorithms and programming, databases, networks, security),
o Specialized courses (master’s level) within one's preferred areas of expertise.
• Participate in the implementation of pedagogical innovations.
Research and technology-transfer Missions:
The digital Center is structured in 3 research groups.
ARTS (Autonomous, ResilienT Systems) group aims at making distributed and constrained systems resilient and autonomous. A global vision is adopted, integrating data collection (and its communication problems), software development (and its adaptation to systems), prediction, control and security.
HIDE (Human, Interaction, Decision) group studies human-centered learning models and the interaction between humans and their environment. It is concerned with augmented environments (Smart Factory, intelligent transport system, ...), assistance and management of elder's autonomy (technology enabled care, abnormal human behavior), as well as security of human-related data.
MCLEOD (Modelling and control of Complex systems in Large Environments requiring Optimized Decisions) group aims at understanding and better controlling complex systems through modeling, decision-making and control based on Control theory and Artificial Intelligence approaches.
The candidate will reinforce the CERI DS on the data security theme. This can involve techniques from machine learning (in particular deep learning), signal processing (e.g. for the detection of weak signals), information and coding theory (e.g. for static content analysis), cryptography and biometrics as well as cybersecurity and network vulnerabilities. The targeted applications are in the broad area of data integrity: transmission security, confidence in the information received, quantification of confidential information loss (leak), forensic (for example, detection of deep fakes) or even the insertion of hidden data (watermarking and steganalysis).
The assistant-professor will have to:
· Participate to research activities related to the trust one can have in information. He will join the CERI DS by developing original approaches at the interface between statistics and machine learning applied to data security and/or related to the data transfer and network design and security.
· Initiate and develop research projects and actions by ensuring the creation of research bridges within the CERI and with other CERIs in relation to the fields of excellence of the school and the Mines Télécom Institute,
· Develop research and technology transfer actions with economic partners,
· Co-supervise PhD students and prepare the French diploma “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR)”,
· Contribute to the scientific intelligence efforts,
· Promote the center's research themes,
· Participate in the activities of regional and/or international scientific groups, and organize scientific events,
· Participate in the organization of scientific events, and valorize the scientific results obtained (publications, communications).
Job requirements
REQUIRED PROFILE:
The applicant should:
· have solid scientific and technological background to address data security related issues, by involving techniques at the interface between statistics and machine learning, as well as signal and/or image processing or in the field of software defined network and cybersecurity,
· show interest for one or more of the application fields related to multi-media security (forensics, steganalysis, watermarking, ...) or pen testing and network vulnerabilities,
· have skills for team working and interpersonal communication,
· be successfully experienced in teaching activities,
· master English language in written and oral forms (whatever the context: expression, negotiation, articles redaction),
· express cultural and linguistic skills and mobilize them to the development of international academic and scientific collaborations,
· actively contribute to the teaching activities and design MOOCS/SPOC in English,
· participate to work teams, international events and exchanges (conferences, congresses, etc.),
The candidate must hold a PhD degree in the field of Data Science or Computer and Network Science.
This position would fit to an applicant interested in teaching and research activities focused on industrial and societal challenges. A successful experience in a postdoctoral position and knowledge in project management would be greatly appreciated. The candidate should be open-minded to easily and efficiently integrate into multi-disciplinary projects.
The applicant should provide concrete elements justifying the successful practice of teaching activities (qualification, courses, etc.).
This position is in Villeneuve d’Ascq. The applicant should keep in mind the possible short travels required to reach the different sites of activities, especially for teaching activities.
