Job description

Télécom Paris, an international multidisciplinary center for education, research, and innovation, is a leading institution in the digital world.

In a highly topical context where the simultaneous rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity is profoundly transforming digital systems and creating a growing need for expertise at their intersection, AI has become at once a tool, a target, a threat, and a lever for protection.

This is why the Computer Science and Networks Department (INFRES), and in particular the Cybersecurity and Cryptography team (C2), needs to be strengthened through the recruitment of an Assistant/Associate Professor in AI and cybersecurity, capable of working in this field with the many teams of the School, such as Autonomous Critical Embedded Systems (ACES) and Data, Intelligence and Graphs (DIG) within INFRES, or Statistics, Signal and Learning (S2A) within IDS, as well as with other teams of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris at École Polytechnique or Télécom SudParis.
This recruitment aims to reinforce education and research on these emerging challenges by integrating cross-disciplinary skills ranging from machine learning techniques to the security of systems and data.

The expected areas of expertise cover a broad but coherent spectrum at the core of the interactions between artificial intelligence and cybersecurity:

  • understanding and modeling of attacks leveraging AI (generative learning techniques: advanced phishing, vulnerability recognition, malicious traffic or payload generation);

  • design and evaluation of AI methods for intrusion detection, behavioral analysis, massive event correlation, anomaly detection, malware classification, and processing of distributed streams (edge computing, federated learning);

  • intrinsic security of AI, including model robustness (defense against adversarial attacks, resistance to manipulations and data corruption), protection of the data used for training or inference (confidentiality, anonymization, privacy preservation, cryptographic or federated techniques), model traceability and trust (certification, explainability, auditability), as well as the security of learning pipelines and execution environments.

Your missions will include:

Research:
Candidates may position themselves on one or several of these dimensions. Particular attention will be paid to the ability to articulate AI and cybersecurity, with theoretical, methodological, or experimental contributions that strengthen the safety, robustness, and resilience of contemporary digital systems.
The position is open both to AI researchers with a strong interest in cybersecurity and to profiles with dual AI–cybersecurity expertise, capable of contributing to the development of high-level academic work in this rapidly evolving field.

Teaching:
The future recruit may be involved in fundamental courses (algorithms, data structures, probability, statistics, optimization, programming, networks, systems) that form the essential foundation for mastering modern approaches in AI and digital security.
In parallel, the recent creation of a dedicated AI and cybersecurity track generates a significant need for pedagogical expertise in machine learning, network and system security, intrusion detection, model security and robustness, data protection, applied cryptography, etc.
The recruited candidate will thus have a structuring role in coordinating and integrating teaching within this field, participating in the design of new modules, and ensuring the harmonious inclusion of both AI and cybersecurity competencies across curricula.

Community engagement and contribution to the visibility of the School and Institut Polytechnique de Paris:
The candidate will participate in seminars, thesis defenses, and other academic events, and develop strong relationships with academic institutions, research centers, and industry partners.
