Job description

Who we are ?

Télécom Paris, part of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom) and a founding member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, is one of France's top 5 general engineering schools.

The mainspring of Télécom Paris is to train, imagine and undertake to design digital models, technologies and solutions for a society and economy that respect people and their environment.

We are looking for our next postdoctoral researcher in bioinformatics for the biology of ageing to join the IDS department at Telecom Paris.

The current postdoctoral position shall be conducted within the Image, Data, Signal (IDS) department in the Signal, Statistics and Machine Learning (S2A) team. The IDS department elaborates new AI methods and algorithms to analyze and exploit these data contributing to many aspects of data science ranging from challenging societal expectations (fairness, bias management, robustness/reliability, privacy preservation, energy frugality) to key applications such as health or environment monitoring, or answering to technological / computational constraints (e.g. sensor networks, IoT, distributed file systems or infrastructures for massively parallelized/distributed computation, online processing).

The IDS research relies on various fields such as probabilistic modeling, statistical learning, simulation, optimization, machine learning, NLP, visual and audio computing including computer vision, computer graphics, medical imaging, remote sensing, multi-modal data, etc.

IDS activities take advantage of a high national and international recognition and is supported by numerous fundings (ERC and European projects, ANR fundings, chairs and joint labs, …). The department also contributes actively to innovation and industrial research. IDS is also a key contributor to Institut Polytechnique de Paris and Hi!Paris center.

The S2A team is affiliated with Telecom Paris’ in-house research laboratory, LTCI. Team’s expertise spans several disciplines: probabilistic modeling, statistics, optimization, (audio) signal processing, machine/deep-learning and computational linguistics. The team mobilizes them to produce methodologically sound research in response to some of the challenges posed by the nature and format of modern data, as well as the high societal expectations surrounding the development of AI solutions that are not only effective but also reliable, robust, ethical, frugal and integrate sustainability issues.

The team's research activities revolve around four main themes, which are often intertwined in AI applications: Probability & Statistics, Machine-Learning and Optimization, Audio Data Analysis and Signal Processing (more information here), Natural Language Processing.

A significant fraction of our research is performed within national and international collaborative projects, with numerous academic and industrial partners.

Your main responsabilities :

To carry out research missions in the field of Bioinformatics for Aging Biology.

To contribute to the reputation of the School, the Institut Mines-Télécom and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

You have experience in computational biology or artificial intelligence applied to drug discovery, as well as solid practical experience in analysing biological data. You are comfortable with data science workflows and communicate effectively in scientific English.

Why join us?
You'll be working in a fast-growing, pleasant, green and accessible environment (especially for people with disabilities) just 20 km from Paris (RER B and C suburban train lines, close to major roads, shared shuttle departing from Porte d'Orléans). You will benefit from :

  • 49 days annual leave (CA + RTT)

  • flexible working hours (depending on department activity)

  • telecommuting 1 to 3 days/week possible

  • 75% public transport pass reimbursement

  • Proximity to numerous sports facilities, concierge service, underground parking, in-house catering, etc.
