CONTEXT:

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, and as part of the Institut Mines Télécom, IMT Nord Europe has three main missions: training responsible engineers capable of solving major 21st-century challenges; conducting research leading to high value-added innovations; and supporting territorial development, particularly by facilitating innovation and business creation. Its goal is to train future engineers who master both digital technologies and industrial expertise. Ideally located at the crossroads of Europe, one hour from Paris, 30 minutes from Brussels, and 1.5 hours from London, IMT Nord Europe aims to become a major player in the great industrial, digital, and environmental transformations of the 21st century by combining engineering sciences and digital technologies in both its teaching and research.

Located on two main teaching and research sites in Lille and Douai, IMT Nord Europe relies on over 20,000 m² of laboratories to develop high-level teaching and excellent research in the following areas:

Energy and Environment

Digital Systems

Materials and Processes

The school also has branches in Dunkerque, Valenciennes, and Alençon.

For more details, visit the school’s website: www.imt-nord-europe.fr

The position is to be filled within the Center for Education, Research, and Innovation in Digital Systems (CERI SN) (https://recherche.imt-nord-europe.fr/systemes-numeriques).

In this context, IMT Nord Europe is recruiting a Lecturer or Associate Professor whose missions are described below.

MISSIONS:

Under the authority of the Director of CERI, the successful candidate will participate in teaching, research, and technology transfer activities.

Teaching Activities:

·         Provide teaching, according to their competencies, in one or more specialties (lectures, tutorials, practical work) in the following areas: data mining and machine learning, automation, industrial automation, robotics, embedded systems, common core computer science (object-oriented programming and algorithms, networks, systems). Some courses may be taught in English. The recruited candidate will contribute to the evolution of the content and materials of various courses.

·         Provide teaching (lectures, tutorials, practical work) within the School's various programs in their areas of expertise. The candidate will participate in the core curriculum of the engineering program as well as in the integrated preparatory cycle (e.g., basics of computer science and programming in the integrated preparatory cycle or basics of object-oriented programming in the core engineering curriculum, introduction to data science in the core engineering curriculum or in FISA). They will also contribute to specialized courses (master's level) in their preferred areas (e.g., ML/AI and AI in healthcare in the RAISE track). Some courses may be taught in English.

·         Contribute to the implementation of pedagogical innovations integrating digital tools (MOOCs, flipped classrooms, etc.).

·         Engage in pedagogical supervision activities (projects, internships, competitions).

·         Invest in and participate in collective responsibilities related to education.

·         Collaborate with industry professionals to strengthen the connection between teaching and current industrial and technological realities.

Research and Technology Transfer Activities:

CERI Digital Systems is structured into three research axes:

·         ARTS (Autonomous, Resilient Systems) aims to make distributed and constrained systems resilient and autonomous. A global vision is adopted, integrating data collection (and its communication issues), software development (and its adaptation to systems), prediction, control, and security.

·         HIDE (Human, Interaction, Data Ecosystem) studies human-centered learning models and the interaction between humans and their environment. It focuses on augmented environments (Factory of the Future, intelligent transport, etc.), assistance, and management of human autonomy (connected health, anomalies in human behavior), as well as the security of human-related data. The axis is organized around three themes: Research in Human-Centered Computing, Multimodal Perception, and Data Security, Quality, and Reliability.

·         MCLEOD (Modeling and Control of Complex Systems in Large Environments Requiring Optimized Decisions) aims to understand and better control complex systems through modeling, decision-making, and control approaches from Automation and Artificial Intelligence.

For this recruitment, the candidate will strengthen the research activities of the MCLEOD axis (Modeling and Control of Complex Systems in Large Environments Requiring Optimized Decisions), which focuses on the modeling and control of complex systems. The recruited person will participate in the development of the center's research activities by integrating into at least one of the following themes:

·         System identification and observation

·         Predictive control

·         Multi-agent systems

·         Optimization, simulation, digital twins

·         Data mining and explainability

The recruited person will have to:

·         Develop high-level research and technology transfer activities (with socio-economic stakeholders) in the following areas: energy systems (battery ecosystem, smart charging), transport and mobility, multi-robot systems, and the industry of the future.

·         Initiate and coordinate research projects, supervise PhD students and master's students, with a view to preparing a Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR).

·         Actively contribute to regional, national, European, or partnership projects (particularly in collaboration with the industrial world and/or other IMT schools).

·         Publish in leading conferences and journals in the field and participate in the organization of scientific events.

·         Be an active participant in the French and international scientific community in the relevant fields.

·         Participate in research projects and actions, ensuring the creation of thematic bridges within CERI SN and with other CERIs in line with the School's and Institut Mines Télécom's areas of excellence.

·         Develop contractual research and technology transfer actions in partnership with economic stakeholders.

·         Prepare a Habilitation to Supervise Research (HDR).

·         Contribute to scientific monitoring efforts.

·         Promote and develop the thematic focus of CERI, particularly the integration of digital sciences in this approach.

·         Participate in the activities of regional and/or international groups in their discipline.
