Job description
Internationally recognized generalist engineering school of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), a leading French engineering school (Technological University), IMT Atlantique aims to support transitions, train responsible engineers, and use scientific excellence to serve teaching, research, and innovation.
As part of the BRAIN project, focused on cutting-edge innovation at the intersection of deep learning, signal processing, and hardware implementation, with a strong emphasis on “Thrifty AI” (energy-efficient AI, low-data-rate systems) and embedded AI, we are recruiting a Research and Development Engineer in Hardware Implementation for Deep Learning within our Mathematical and Electrical Engineering (MEE) department.
In collaboration with the project team and under the supervision of Mathieu LEONARDON and Matthieu ARZEL, you will design new accelerators and co-design the hardware algorithm. You will benchmark the state of the art. You will ensure scientific dissemination.
Job requirements
Minimum education and/or experience required:
Master's degree (M2) or equivalent. If the applicant has advanced skills on the subject, acquired during a doctorate or previous professional experience, the ambitions of the position and the remuneration will be adapted
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
Technical Skills (Hardware)
o Proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL for RTL design.
o Expertise in High-Level Synthesis (HLS) tools (e.g., Vitis HLS, Catapult).
o Experience with FPGA (Vivado/Quartus) or ASIC digital design flows.
o Strong knowledge of computer architecture, memory hierarchies, and parallel processing.
Domain Knowledge (Deep Learning)
o Proficiency in Python and PyTorch/TensorFlow for model analysis.
o Knowledge of model quantization, pruning, and hardware-aware optimizations.
o Understanding of standard NN architectures (CNNs, Transformers) and their computational characteristics.
Research & Methodology
o Ability to perform rigorous benchmarking and PPA (Power, Performance, Area) analysis.
o Experience with technical writing (LaTeX) and data visualization for scientific publications.
o Strong analytical skills to digest state-of-the-art literature and identify research gaps.
In addition to these technical skills, a good command of English is required, both spoken and written, for analyzing scientific documents and collaborating in an international environment.
