Job description

Internationally recognized generalist engineering school of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), leading French engineering school (Technological University), IMT Atlantique aims to support transitions, train responsible engineers, and use scientific excellence to serve teaching, research and innovation.
The position is based on the Nantes campus within the Energy and Environment Systems Department (DSEE), which is part of the GEPEA 6144 joint research unit. The DSEE develops research and teaching activities in the field of eco-technologies for energy and the environment, with a particular focus on energy production processes using waste and co-products, the optimization of energy systems in interaction with their environment, and processes for the elimination/separation of pollutants from water, air, and gases. It consists of three teams:
TEAM, Water, Air, and Metrology Treatment;
VERTE, Energy/Matter Recovery and Emissions Treatment;
OSE, Energy Systems Optimization.
The expected profile will focus on methodologies for analyzing environmental impacts at the level of industrial and energy systems or infrastructure: assessment, modeling, optimization. The candidate will thus complement the research activities of the department and the laboratory with an approach based, among other things, on industrial ecology and/or the circular or cascading economy. The position will be based in the OSE group with possible collaboration with VERTE group.
The candidate will have experience in the fields of holistic environmental assessment, including life cycle analysis and climate change impacts at different scales, through the development of appropriate metrics. This experience will be complemented by a mastery of modeling and/or optimization strategies for interconnected systems.
The candidate will work to propose effective solutions—in terms of technological choices, sizing, or management—with regard to energy, environmental, and socio-economic issues. Their work will be part of a multi-scale approach, ranging from complex systems to industrial sites to entire regions.
Education
Located on 3 attractive campuses, IMT Atlantique boasts a strong international dynamic while remaining on a human scale. In its various BAC+5 programs (engineering and masters-DNM), students are confronted with real-life problem situations through a variety of pedagogical approaches. The ambition of IMT Atlantique is to train high-potential young professionals, capable of mobilizing a broad spectrum of skills in real-life situations, in a variety of environments (production, research, business creation, etc.) and socio-economic fields.
Involved both in the core curriculum and in the elective courses, the person recruited will contribute both to his or her specialty and to cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary activities or those linked to companies: tutoring of projects/internships, oral presentations, coaching, etc. He/she will be invited to propose new projects, programs and related teaching methodologies, particularly inspired and supported by industrial requirements and partnerships. https://www.imt-atlantique.fr/en/study
Collective responsibility and involvement in economic development
Particular attention will be focused on the candidate's ability to get involved in the collective life of the school: contributing to, or piloting, cross-disciplinary projects (e.g. on ecological transition), taking on responsibilities (training programs, research projects, teaching or research teams) or participating in bodies such as the teaching committee, school council, social administration committee.
In addition, in an environment of privileged relations with major national and international industrial partners, as well as a dense network of SMEs and start-ups, the teacher-researcher recruited will contribute to the school's reputation and economic development, particularly through the valorization of his/her work by patenting or technology transfer. With 290 permanent faculty members, 2,300 students including 300 PhD students, IMT Atlantique produces 1,000 publications each year and raises 18M€ in research funds.
