Job description

Current data processing techniques combine several very powerful algorithmic approaches. Teaching and research in this area require the integration of the fundamental aspects of data processing, signal enhancement and data quality characterization. The area of application is clearly oriented towards digital health.

In recent years, the interest in digital technologies has grown significantly in the medical field (e.g., detection devices, specific applications for smartphones, image and video processing from a variety of sensors). These digital technologies naturally find their application in the realm of early and personalized diagnosis. The markers derived from the digital processing of data collected through various sensors have the potential to provide decision support for the monitoring of disease symptoms, thereby complementing clinical and biological markers. This encompasses decision support in pharmacovigilance and the ability to continuously and sensitively monitor response to treatment, enabling prompt adjustment of therapies. Digital markers also contribute to the early diagnosis and patient stratification for precision medicine.

The Electronics and Physics department (Eph) is seeking to reinforce its research activities by appointing an assistant/associate professor to the Intermedia Group. The focus will be on information acquisition and processing techniques, pattern recognition and machine learning. Research activities will align closely with the primary theme of Biomedical Engineering at both the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) and the Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT).

Teaching activities will focus on signal and data processing, pattern recognition techniques and machine learning methods. The successful candidate will be expected to teach as part of the Master's program in Biomedical Engineering (BME) at IP Paris (https://www.ip-paris.fr/education/masters/mention-mecanique/master-year-2-biomedical-engineering-bme) and, as well as in the department's priority training programs.

How to apply

Applications must include a cover letter, a detailed CV, a statement setting out previous research and teaching activities, a list of main publications and the contact details of two referees. The application must be submitted in a single file.

The inclusion of additional items such as teaching records, support letters, and awards, is left to the candidate’s discretion.

Gender equality policy

Professional equality between women and men is a priority for IP Paris which, while relying on the guidelines of European and French HR policies in the field of research, adapts its commitment to the needs and context of the institute:

IP Paris has thus equipped itself with dedicated resources and expertise in gender equality to implement an action plan based on internal discussions and an analysis of the existing situation and needs. The implementation and monitoring of these actions are steered by IP Paris' "gender equality" managers. Two "gender equality" referents have been appointed: one for the staff and one for the students. The latter will ensure that all IP Paris staff members are actively involved in the actions of the gender equality plan.

As the causes of gender inequality are multifactorial, IP Paris is committed to providing multiple solutions through clear and measurable objectives structured around 4 fundamental principles:

  • Guarantee equal access to different positions, training and career development, particularly for managerial positions;
  • Preventing the risk of discrimination in recruitment and providing solutions to pay gaps;
  • Encourage and promote the reconciliation of personal and professional life, while raising awareness among managers of issues relating to this balance;
  • Fighting against harassment and all forms of sexist behaviour, gender-based and/or sexual violence.
