MISSIONS:
The mission of the postdoctoral researcher is to serve as the technical and methodological bridge across both research strands, leveraging expertise in economics and computer science to integrate advanced, neural-network-based algorithms into the project's simulation and experimental designs.
ACTIVITIES:
contribute to:
• The technical development and benchmarking of advanced algorithms across both research strands:
◦ Implementation of deep reinforcement learning agents using PyTorch and related Python libraries.
◦ Benchmarking of advanced algorithms against the q-learning baseline
◦ Analysis of how increased algorithmic sophistication influences convergence regimes, cooperation propensity, and the speed at which collusive outcomes emerge.
• The extension of the field experiment in the second research strand:
◦ Development of sophisticated in-house AI agents capable of testing commercial repricing software under realistic competitive scenarios.
◦ Design of testing protocols that confront commercial AI-powered software with simulated rivals of varying competitive behavior.
◦ Evaluation of the adaptive capabilities of commercial repricing software against game-theoretical benchmarks.
• The academic dissemination and valorization of results:
◦ Co-authoring of working papers with the principal investigator and project collaborators.
◦ Submission of papers to leading peer-reviewed journals in economics (e.g., American Economic Review, Management Science, RAND Journal of Economics) and computer science (e.g., ACM, Elsevier, Springer journals).
◦ Presentation of results at international conferences in economics (EARIE, ASSA, TSE Digital Economics Conference) and computer science (ICML, ICMLA, ACM SIGKDD).
• Participate to the academic activities of the department
Depending on your profile, certain aspects will be explored in greater depth than others, and additional contributions may be considered—particularly regarding the integration of state-of-the-art algorithms or the refinement of the experimental protocol. We are open to candidates' proposals for contributions according to their areas of interest and expertise.
