Job description
Who we are ?
Télécom Paris, part of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom) and a founding member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, is one of France's top 5 general engineering schools.
The mainspring of Télécom Paris is to train, imagine and undertake to design digital models, technologies and solutions for a society and economy that respect people and their environment.
We are looking for a Post-doctoral Fellow in Information Theory for Artificial for applications in distributed detection. This position, more specifically, lies in the field of information theory, so in applied mathematics and probability, and deals with understanding the theoretical foundations of distributed sensing and detection systems.
SCIENTIFIC CONTEXT
Sensing and detection are the backbone of modern communication systems, data processing and decision-making frameworks. They guarantee reliable interpretation of physical phenomena in applications ranging from radar systems to building maintenance, intrusion detection and biomedical devices. Other important detection and identification systems include smart sensors as part of the Internet of Things (IoT), industrial robots used in automated manufacturing sites, and the growing fleet of autonomous vehicles such as drones or cars.
Information theory has proven to be a suitable tool for studying the foundations of sensing theory, particularly for distributed systems and when used in connection with communication applications, as in integrated sensing and communication standards. In this project, we adopt an information and coding theoretic approach to unveil new fundamental properties and limitations of theoretical and practical distributed sensing systems and, more generally, of goal-oriented communication systems.
