Job description

Internationally recognized generalist engineering school of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), a leading French engineering school (Technological University), IMT Atlantique aims to support transitions, train responsible engineers, and use scientific excellence to serve teaching, research, and innovation.


As part of the HyMES project, which aims to explore hybrid modeling solutions to cope with the complexity of multi-energy systems and networks, we are recruiting a Post-doctorate in Energy Systems Modeling in our Energy Systems and Environment department.


In collaboration with the project team, you will develop the reference model for MHE consisting of a reference configuration (configuration of technologies and networks for electricity and heating) as well as the appropriate modeling strategy to provide results at the different scales addressed by the project. You integrate the results of the project's five PhD students to define the chosen strategy. You will test the suitability of the EMS configuration and modeling strategy, during an appropriate simulation campaign covering the diversity of time scales and time horizons analyzed in the project. You will build up a set of input and output data with a degree of quality qualified to serve as a reference for the scientific community.

Job requirements

You have research experience and expertise in energy systems modeling. You have a good knowledge of energy technologies (thermal and electrical), and associated physics.

You have solid skills in Python or Julia and in the development of commented code, with a sensitivity to the open-source approach and the sharing of solutions.

Research experience in Machine Learning methods and their implementation would be appreciated, as well as collaborative work on shared code.

You will be able to support PhD students in the development of their projects.

You enjoy working in a team and have good writing skills.


- You must have a PhD in energy systems modeling obtained less than 3 years before the date of hire.
