Job description

IMT Atlantique

Internationally recognized generalist engineering school of the IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), leading French engineering school (Technological University), IMT Atlantique aims to support transitions, train responsible engineers, and use scientific excellence to serve teaching, research, and innovation.

Department presentation

The INUIT (Immersive Natural User Interaction) team of the Computer Science Department conducts research on interaction in Mixed Reality by designing Virtual and Augmented Reality system by proposing models and metaphors evaluated by user experiments. Applications domains include but are not limited to: Industry of the Future, Health, Defense and Cultural Heritage.

Project description

The main objective of the EMPOWR project is to introduce a multi-layered augmentation ecosystem that will transform industrial workspaces into adaptive, intelligent environments where workers are not just operators, but enhanced decision-makers. This ecosystem will promote human-machine collaboration through two core technologies: an adaptive AR workbench accompanied by a Cognitive AI Companion, the Adaptive Learning Manufacturing Assistant (ALMA), an LLM-based AI system that will have the role of the manufacturing workspace intelligence.

The INUIT team is the leader for the design and development of the AR workbench. The AR workbench will implement an AR design space designed to support several forms of information display via augmentations. Actual display will be based on elements provided by ALMA and by physiological signals monitored on the workers. The AR workbench will be deployed on two industry use cases and user studies will be performed for validation.

Under the functional responsibility of Prof. Guillaume Moreau and in collaboration with the INUIT team, the main tasks of the position are:

1- Designing an AR design space for the display of complex tasks relevant information

2- Implement the AR workbench and connectors to the other tools developed by the project

3- Prepare the deployment of the AR workbench to the 2 industrial use cases

4- Participate in side activities of the project

1- AR design space for the display of complex tasks relevant information

  • Collection of augmentation tasks with partners

  • Build the design space of augmentations (where, when, what, how)

2- Implement the AR workbench and connectors

  • Develop the generic AR workbench with generic AR components

  • Implement the interface for executing the AR design space

  • Define the interfaces with other software components of the projects

3- Prepare the deployment of the AR workbench to the 2 industrial use cases

  • Participate into the use case accurate definition

  • Define the additional specific requirements for the AR workbench

  • Participate into and monitor their implementation

4- Participate in side activities of the project

  • Participate in writing the deliverables

  • Attend General assemblies and technical meetings

  • Write scientific publications
