Affiliation: Ecole Nationale Supérieure Mines-Télécom Lille Douai (IMT Nord Europe)
Workplace: Douai (France)
Type of contract: permanent position
Institution: Ecole Nationale Supérieure Mines-Télécom Lille Douai (IMT Nord Europe)
Public establishment belonging to IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, IMT Nord Europe has three main objectives: providing our students with ethically responsible engineering practice enabling them to solve 21st century issues, carrying out our R&D activities leading to significant innovations and supporting territorial development through innovation and entrepreneurship. Ideally positioned at the heart of Europe, 1 hour away from Paris, 30 min from Brussels and 1h30 from London, IMT Nord Europe has strong ambitions to become a key player in ongoing industrial transitions, digital and environmental, by combining education and research on engineering and digital technologies.
Located on two main campuses dedicated to research and education in Douai and Lille, IMT Nord Europe offers research facilities of almost 20,000m² in the following areas:
Digital Systems
Energy and Environment
Materials and Processes
For more information, see: https://imt-nord-europe.fr/en/
IMT Nord Europe wishes to strengthen the research skills of its Centre for Research and Innovation in Energy and Environment (CERI EE) (https://recherche.imt-nord-europe.fr/energie-environnement-ceri/), and to develop interfaces with IMT Nord Europe's two other CERIs in Materials Processes (CERI MP) and Digital Systems (CERI SN), and reinforce its positioning at national and international levels. The jury will be particularly attentive to project proposals that promote interdisciplinarity and that are in line with IMT Nord Europe and IMT Institutes' areas of excellence.
CERI EE's Atmospheric Sciences research team comprises 20 teacher-researchers and 10 technicians and engineers. The team's core themes are aimed at gaining a better understanding of the physicochemical processes involved in the generation and transformation of gaseous and particulate pollutants, and assessing their impact on Man and the Environment. IMT Nord Europe wishes to strengthen the team's skills in the field of sensors for monitoring indoor and outdoor air quality and individual exposure.
In this context, IMT Nord Europe is recruiting a Associate Researcher whose missions are described below:
Missions:
General Context
Reporting to the CERI Director, the incumbent will participate in research and technology transfer activities. Teaching assignments may also be offered in connection with research activities dedicated to polymers for printed electronics. Skills in polymer engineering and physics will be applied to gas and particle sensors for air quality and biomedical applications.
The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in physical chemistry of the atmosphere, electronics and polymer science.
Research and Technology transfer activities:
· Initiate and lead research projects related to:
i) the understanding the transduction phenomena used in polymers dedicated to gases and particles detection,
ii) the advanced characterization of thin films to establish the relationship between material properties, structure, and performance,
iii) the design and the qualification of air quality sensors (in laboratory and field campaign),
iv) the optimisation of the ink processing of polymers dedicated to organic electronic.
· Develop research activities by building partnerships with national and international academic research laboratories, and with players from industry, innovation and business.
· Contribute to the development of innovative methods for characterizing and qualifying sensor systems dedicated to gases and particles,
· Contribute to training through research by supervising doctoral and post-doctoral students,
· In collaboration with the technical team and researchers, maintain a technology watch to ensure that the most advanced scientific equipment, hardware and software relevant to the job are available,
· Contribute to the definition of the resources required for the smooth running of the laboratory's activities,
· Participate in national and international groups working on organic/printed electronic and/or polymers physics,
· Participate in various scientific and technological events on behalf of CERI EE, and in the valorisation (publications, communications) of the results obtained,
· Provide technology transfer services.
Job requirements
Required Profile:
The successful candidate must have a strong scientific background and technical skills, allowing her/him to carry out the above tasks.
She/He should have:
· Proven scientific and technological skills in organic materials physics, engineering and processing of functional materials and/or printed electronics. Knowledge in sensors design and related data processing would be appreciated,
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills,
· A good command of written and spoken English is required. Skills in French would be appreciated,
· Demonstrate a strong international outlook,
· Willingness to participate in working groups, exchanges and national and international events (conferences, congresses, etc.).
The candidate must hold a PhD in material physics, material engineering or organic electronics, printed electronics. The position would suit a person with a keen in researching organic materials and their application to sensors. In the French academic reference system, the position corresponds to a qualification in section CNU (Conseil National des Universités) 28 and/or 63. Candidates must provide proof of experience. The candidate should be culturally open, able to work effectively into multidisciplinary projects, and show an interest in applying his/her research to air quality issues.
Information about the working conditions:
This position is part of a stimulating and dynamic innovation ecosystem with diverse stakeholders (start-ups, students, research institutions, companies). This job can be adapted for people with disabilities.
It offers attractive working conditions, including the possibility of partial remote work, around forty days' leave a year, on-site catering, 75% of the cost of public transport to and from work, a sustainable mobility package (for car-pooling or cycling), a family supplement depending on the family and a wide range of social benefits.
